A. Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the phytochemical profile and antibacterial activitity of flower extracts of Ixora coccinea Linn. The studies on the antibacterial activity of n-hexane extract (nHE), benzene extract (BE), diethyl ether extract (DEE), acetone extract (AE), ethanol extract (EE), methanol extract (ME) and aqueous extract (AqE) of I. coccinea L. were conducted using agar disc diffusion method. The microorganisms used included Staphylococcus aureus & Bacillus subtilis (gram positive); and Escherichia coli & Klebsiella pneumoniae (gram negative). All the extracts of I. coccinea L. showed potent antibacterial activity. The maximum antibacterial activity was observed by AE against E. coli and K. pneumoniae. nHE, BE, DEE, EE, ME and AqE possessed moderate antibacterial activity. The presence of alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, flavonoids, steroids and carbohydrates were observed in the flower extracts of I. coccinea L.
