This works tries to analyze the major theoretical and methodological elements that make up the concept of portfolio of evidence as a metacognitive strategy and assessment that contributes to the development of competencies from the point of view of a socioformative perspective. Therefore, we conducted a literature review based on the conceptual mapping based on primary sources. We conclude that the portfolio of evidence as seen from the socio-formative perspective transcends the use that traditionally has been given to it as a tool for the organization of learning products, and in this way be consolidated as a strategy for evaluation of theperformance from the instruments, evidence and the improvement of these through metacognition. New studies must be developed to enhance the methodology andits impact on the students formation as a whole.
