Descripción

The aim of this study was to conduct a study of the bird assemblage present in the Arboretum Experimental Station (IBE-UCV), consisting of a 2 ha patch of montane semideciduous forest located in Caracas city. The area was sampled twice a month, from april 2012 to march 2013, using mist nets (12 x 1.8 meters). Were caught 132 birds, belonging to 40 species and 17 families. The predominant species were Atalotriccus pilaris, Galbula ruficauda, Coereba flaveola and Formicivora grisea. The most abundant and richest families were Tyrannidae and Thraupidae. There were eight feeding guilds, being the insectivores the most abundants. Although this study was for only one year, the richness and abundance encountered are indicative of the conservation value of the E. E. Arboretum as a refuge for birds of Caracas.
