Abstract The “cerrado” (Brazilian savanna) is the second,largest Brazilian biome,and it is considered,a biodiversity hotspot. In recent years, the concern with the protection of genetic diversity of the plant species has become priority for the conservation strategies, which aims to maintain the long-term evolutionary viability of these species. In this context, it is essential to develop studies related to the genetic variability of the few remain- ing fragments of the “cerrado”. Therefore, the knowledge of the biology of the species, the dynamics and the genetic structure of the,populations,are important,factors for promoting,efficient genetic conservation.
