Entre Etnocentrismo e Apologética: Discutindo a Historiografia Religiosa de Macau

This paper discusses the dominant trends in the religious historiography of Macau, stressing an ethnocentric pattern and an apologetic trend largely influenced by jesuit chronicles and hagiography of missionary work in China. This dominant historiography has neglected the role of Macau in preserving popular religious Chinese practices that are prior to the Portuguese settlement in the enclave.
