ENTRE EL INDIVIDUO Y LA REPÚBLICA: MAQUIAVELO, TOCQUEVILLE Y LA DOCTRINA DEL INTERÉS BIEN ENTENDIDO

Resumen: Los republicanistas enarbolan la bandera de la participación política como principal argumento en contra del liberalismo. Frente a la presunta incompatibilidad entre republicanismo y liberalismo, este traba-jo intentará señalar que ambas corrientes poseen puntos de coincidencia. Sostenemos que el pensamiento de Tocqueville traza el camino que conec-ta ambas corrientes, siendo el pensamiento de Maquiavelo una referencia ineludible. Abstract: Republican theorists raise the flag of political participation as the main argument against liberalism. Faced with the alleged incompatibility between republicanism and liberalism, this paper will attempt to point out that both stances have a common ground. We hold that the thought of Tocqueville connects the two, and that Machiavelli's political thinking is also a relevant reference.
