Introduction. In recent decades, clinical simulation has become an essential tool in the training of nursing professionalsand the evidences of its benefits in these areas are numerous. Nevertheless, as far as its reliability and its validity forassessment are concerned, there is a lack of evidence, especially in the practical scope. Therefore, the main objective ofthis study is to determine if high fidelity simulation can be useful as a complementary tool to the assessment of competencesin the practicum in a Nursing Degree. Methods. Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. Sample. Seniorstudents enrolled in the practicum of the Nursing Degree from the “San Juan de Dios” School of Nursing and Physiotherapy.Variables. Socio-demographic and academic variables were obtained: assessment of competences in the practicumand of the process evaluation carried out by the students. They were measured by means of the official form for the practicumevaluation, the State/Trait Anxiety Inventory, the visual analogue scale for anxiety and some ad hoc questionnairesfor the activity evaluation. Statistical analysis. Depending on the sample size, either the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test or theShapiro Wilk test will be utilized. Limitations. The impossibility of completely replicating the real conditions by meansof clinical simulation. The difficulty in extrapolating the data to other contexts. The differences between both evaluationscopes. Implications. To implement this instrument within the Nursing Degree as a complement to the assessment ofcompetences which are difficult to evaluate with traditional tools.
