“English Dottiness”: Una aplicación de la filosofía cotidiana de Humberto Giannini en Saturday de Ian McEwan

Descripción

The present paper overlaps the philosophy of the Chilean Humberto Giannini about the quotidian reflection (2013) with the English novel Saturday (2006), by Ian McEwan. McEwan develops his plot according to three main places: the square, the street and the home. These are the places by which the man, Giannini says, knows himself better, thanks to a continuous interchange with the other in a common landscape. My argument is that the novel acquires a new status of existentialism using Giannini's archeology of experience to explain the main character's connection with the particular spaces. Both this philosophy and the novel come to merge into the same phenomenon: self-awareness of our the character's existence possible through the common encounters between contemporary philosophy and fiction.  Key Words: Quotidian experience – Self-awareness – Quotidian Philosophy.
