Descripción

This is not another book on the War of 1898. On the contrary, its purpose is ascertaining what role did Spain play in the evolution of U.S. foreign policy over the three decades preceding the outbreak of the conflict. Despite its significance, this period is still under the influence of clichés and misinformation. Obviously, the Cuban question figures prominently, but at no point are bilateral relations reduced to that issue. The book also pays special attention to the economic diplomacy and cultural cooperation carried out by Spain and the United States. The systematic analysis of the period provides a radically new interpretation of U.S.-Spain relations at a crucial time in the history of both countries.
