El sistema de la religión de Niklas Luhmann: el manejo de la incertidumbre ante el eterno decaimiento

Resumen: El presente artículo aborda a la religión como el subsistema encargado de lidiar con la inseguridad de la vida en la obra de Niklas Luhmann. La argumentación parte de presentar los rasgos generales de la teoría sistémica luhmanniana, para posteriormente estudiar la manera en que ese entramado categorial se aterriza en el subsistema de la religión. Pese a la novedad de basar la interpretación de la religión en sistemas autopoiéticos, el artículo propone que ver la función de la religión como manejo de la inseguridad ante el eterno decaimiento, guarda todavía amplias semejanzas con la idea de dotar de sentido a la vida, elemento presente en las reflexiones sobre religión desde la fundación de la sociología. Abstract: This paper analyzes religion as the subsystem in charge of dealing with the insecurity of life in the work of Niklas Luhmann. The discussion begins by exploring the general features of system theory, so that it becomes clear the way in which this categorial framework is used to design the subsystem of religion. Despite the novelty of basing the interpretation of religion in autopoietic systems, the paper argues that conceiving the function of religion as the management of uncertainty caused by eternal decay, still keeps broad similarities with the idea of giving meaning to life, which is an interpretation already present in the reflections on religion since the founding of sociology.
