"The Forgotten Sense: Essays on Touch" is a collection of six essays that explore the role that the sense of touch has played  at different times throughout the cultural history of the West. The essays deal with, among other topics, Homer's Iliad, Lucretius and his reception in the Renaissance, seventeenth-century French thought, the fixation with skin and surfaces shared by Renaissance and Modernist thinkers and artists, the anatomical revolution of the sixteenth century, Michel Henry's phenomenology of the flesh, Renaissance kiss poetry, and Riegl's theory of the haptic.
