RESUMEN La familia Galaxiidae está representada, en Chile, por cinco especies. El estado del conocimiento de ellas es en general escaso, excepto en el caso de G. maculatus debido a que ha adquirido un gran interés económico. Por otro lado, G. globiceps es la menos estudiada debido a que sólo ha sido registrada en dos localidades, en Los Alerces, cerca de Puerto Montt, la localidad tipo, y en la Isla de Chiloé. El último registro, de sólo un espécimen, en el Parque Nacional Chiloé refuerza la idea anterior de su escasez y rareza en el sur de Chile. El objetivo de este estudio es reevaluar el estado de conservación de G. globiceps, a través de la revisión, de los trabajos sobre peces de aguas continentales en Chile. La conclusión general de este trabajo establece que G. globiceps debería ser considerada como una especie En Peligro de Extinción. PALABRAS CLAVES: G. globiceps, Galaxiidae, Estado de Conservación, Chile. ABSTRACT The family Galaxiidae is represented in Chile by five species. The state of knowledge of them is in general scarce except in the case of G. maculatus due to its economical value. On the other hand, G. globiceps is the less known of them because it has been recorded in two localities, in Los Alerces, near Puerto Montt, the type locality and the Chiloe island. The last record of only one specimen from Chiloe National Park reinforces the previous idea of its scarcity and rarity in the southern part of Chile. The aim of this work is to reevaluate the current conservation status of G. globiceps through the revision of works on freshwater fishes of southern Chile. The general conclusion of this work states that G. globiceps deserves the state of being in danger of extintion. KEYWORDS: G. globiceps, Galaxiidae, Conservation status, Chile.
