El impacto social de los Ciclones Tropicales en América Central durante el siglo XX a través del análisis de fuentes hemerográficas

Historical hemerographic sources are important to complete regional data bases and to aliviate the underestimationrelated to past climate events impacts. This is important for the knowledge and reduction of actual and futurevulnerability or/and exposition to these hazards. This work is a study of the social impact caused by the direct andindirect effects of eight hurricanes in Central America, during the twentieth century, through the analysis of CostaRican newspaper sources. The data collected evidence losses caused by cyclones in the Caribbean Basin, in CentralAmerica, that include damage to infrastructure and economic activities in the primary sector, besides the loss ofhuman lives.
