El historiador y su tiempo. Las humanidades digitales y el presente de la investigación y la docencia de la historia

La relación entre el historiador y su fuente de conocimiento siempre ha  suscitado profundas reflexiones en la profesión histórica. En la vinculación  dialéctica entre lo sucedido y los medios con los que contamos para poder  aprehenderlo los especialistas siempre han tenido la impresión, a la hora de  llevar a cabo su trabajo, de que no disponían de todos los elementos de  juicio para completar de manera eficaz su labor.  En las últimas décadas, la irrupción de las tecnologías de la información y la  comunicación han modificado radicalmente esta realidad desde un doble  prisma. Por un lado, las tareas de digitalización masiva de documentación  han cubierto la red de redes de materiales accesibles hasta hace poco  insospechados. Y por el otro, la implementación de herramientas de  tecnificación en la obtención, gestión y tratamiento de la información abre  nuevas perspectivas de estudio muy sugerentes.  El artículo que se presenta aquí expone esta realidad aplicada a un caso  concreto, el proyecto E-port. Cartografía atlántica, siglos XIV-XVIII, que  supone la puesta en marcha de un proyecto piloto de indudable interés a  ambos lados del océano Atlántico.  The relationship between the historian and his source of knowledge has  always aroused deep reflections in the historical profession. In the  dialectical link between the incident and the means available to us to  apprehend it, specialists have always felt that they don’t have all the  elements of judgment to complete effectively their work.  In the last few decades, both the emergence of information and  communication technology has radically altered this reality from a double  prism. On the one hand, the tasks of mass digitalization of documents have  covered the Internet with materials that recently was unthinkable access.  And on the other, the implementation of modernization tools for the  collection, management and information processing has opened up very  suggestive prospects of study.  The article presented here exposes this reality applied to a specific case: the  E-port Project. Atlantic Cartography, Fourteenth-Eighteenth centuries,  which involves the implementation of a pilot project of undoubted interest  on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
