El fin del milenio. Los últimos años del s. XX en la conservación de metales arqueológicos en España

Las continuas limpiezas de algunos metales significativos de los grandes museos de nuestro país, sobre todo de aquellos que salieron a la luz a finales del s. XIX/inicios del XX, están dando lugar a colecciones de objetos deformes, sin epidermis y de lectura confusa, en gran parte debido a la aplicación, a partir de los años 60 del siglo pasado, de algunos tratamientos popularizados por Plenderleith, tratamientos algunos invasivos y profundos que deterioraron, en gran medida, el disfrute en la apreciación visual de las piezas. De ningún modo esto debe entenderse como achacable a una supuesta falta de pericia de los técnicos y tampoco quiere incidir en los inevitableserrores que como seres humanos cometemos, sino a la urgente necesidad de insistir en la protección y la conservación preventiva con la intención de no legarles simples chapas a lasgeneraciones futuras.The continuous cleaning of some significant metals of the great museums of our country, especially those that came to light at the end of the Nineteenth / early Twentieth centuries, are leading to collections of deformed objects without epidermis and confusing reading, largely due to the application, since the 60s of last century, certain treatments popularized by Plenderleith, some of them deeply invasive that have deteriorated the visual appreciation of the pieces. In no way should this be understood as attributable to a perceived lack of technical expertise and does not want to bring forth the inevitable mistakes that we, as human beings, make but the urgent need to insist on the protection and preventive conservation with the intention of bequeathing mere more thanmere tin sheets to future generations.
