EL EXILIO CIENTÍFICO REPUBLICANO EN ARGENTINA

El trabajo reconstruye las trayectorias vitales y laborales de los médicos españoles y profesionales de las ciencias afines que se trasladaron a Argentina con motivo de la guerra civil española y el proceso represor del régimen franquista. Partiendo del estudio de la Edad de Plata de la cultura y la ciencia españolas, concretamente la ciencia médica, lasexperiencias vitales y laborales de los exiliados se insertan en un contexto científico y sociopolítico muy particular, como es el argentino. A partir de aquí, se analiza cómo la guerra civil se convirtió en un punto de ruptura en las trayectorias de los médicos exiliados y cómo se recompusieron en la sociedad de acogida y su imbricación en la cienciaargentina. Se abarcan los diferentes ámbitos profesionales de la medicina exiliada, universidades, hospitales, asociacionismo, etc., a lo largo y ancho de la geografía argentina. Se estudia, además, la participación de este exilio científico en el exilio político y cultural.El trabajo se ha realizado desde la órbita de la historia de las migraciones, donde destaca la aplicación del concepto de redes (redes científicas, institucionales, sociales y familiares) a los procesos de exilio; y la historia de la ciencia, utilizando el concepto de generación y lametodología de la biografía individual y de la biografía colectiva (prosopografía).This research constructs the vital and labour trajectories of the Spanish physicians and medical professionals that moved to the Argentine Republic because of the Spanish Civil War and the following repression from the Franco regime. The study starts from the so-called Silver Age of Spanish culture and sciences, specifically the medical sciences, torecover the lives and working experiences of the exiled Republicans and introduce them into a very specific scientific and socio-political context: the Argentine context. Then, the Spanish Civil War is analysed as a breaking point for the exiled physicians. Thus their trajectories are brought together in the host society and they assimilate and are included in the Argentine sciences. The different fields of the exiled medical professionals are studied in universities, hospitals, and associatons. With that, all the Argentine geography has been covered.The study has been done on the history of migrations, applying the concept of networks to the exile’s processes: scientific, institutional, social, and family networks are emphasized. The history of science is also a frame for this investigation, using the concept of generation and the methodology of biography –both, individual and collective biography or prosopography.
