In 2011 Egypt experienced a violent revolution that almost crippled its economy. Its, until then, robust energy sector was extremely affected by the revolution that led the largest non-OPEC oil producer in Africa and the second largest gas producer in the continent to experience serious energy problems. In this paper we study the after revolution energy deficit, the Al Sisi administration’s initiatives to respond to the problem and how the new discoveries helped the country to reposition itself in the energy map and overturn the geopolitical balance in the East Med and MENA region.
