Abstract: The research work was performed in two sectors with different degrees of fragmentation of Parque Nacional San Diego-La Barra: Los Pajalitos and Los Pezotes. Edges of 100 m and 300 m were established in each sector and a systematic random sampling was performed by counting-up points each 250 m, using as indicators 10 species of birds. The 300 m edge effect surrounding the fragment reduces in a 67% the core area in Los Pajalitos, while in Los Pezotes; this area is reduced in a 96%. The obtained results show a greater abundance of indicator species of perturbation (open habitat generalist) rather than preservation (forests specialist) in both sectors. The average abundance of present birds in the core areas, vary significantly (Anova, F12.010=0.0001, P
