Indian education system emphasizes language learning in the curriculum. The evaluation system also focuses mainly on students’ content knowledge and learning methodology. As the teaching and learning methodology centre on retention with more importance to ‘Writing’ skill, the most needed ‘Listening, Speaking and Reading’ skills are totally ignored. The need of the hour is a transformation in the teaching-learning process in which the candidates have to prepare themselves for their successful professional world with more exposure to passive skills such as listening and reading skills. Hence English language learning at the tertiary level is not simply a matter of language learning.  As classrooms are considered the important sites of intellectual and individual language development of the learners, enhancing communication using classroom teaching methodology is a key to successful collaborative learning in the educational environment. This report studies the outcome of the interactive teaching methodology and while adopted in the class it creates an initiative which aims at engaging the students in learning communication skills. In keeping with the learners’ needs, an action research based on interactive teaching methodology has been carried out by the researcher for a set of students of an autonomous institution using authentic text materials prescribed for Part II English. The short research aims at investigating the extent to which interactive teaching methodology using task-based activities can contribute to learners’ English Language Development (ELD).
