Democracia, crecimiento económico y sindicalismo en el Perú del siglo XXI. Continuidades y rupturas

The article analyzes the Peruvian labor unions’ dynamics duringthe first 12 years of the twenty-first century. Using quantitative and qualitativeinformation, it offers an overview of Peruvian unionism’s changesand continuities after the return to democracy in an economic growthcontext. In the first section statistical information is used to argue that,in spite of the increase in the number of unionized workers and unions, their ability to accomplish their goals did not improve in the last decade. The second section uses case studies and interviews to union leaders to analyze the main transformations in the structure and culture of these organizations after 20 years of neoliberalism.
