Descripción

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of large-scale land acquisitions byforeign investors in developing countries and to identify risks and benefits of this typeof business. As theoretical foundation, secondary sources have been exploited, aswell as documentary research. These showed that the phenomenon knownworldwide as land grabbing, although it may be an opportunity for economicdevelopment in countries which lease land, carries the risk of worsening hunger. Theconclusion reached is that the conflict of interest results in pressure on the land, whose effects are the expropriation of families and the violation of human rights ofaccess to livelihoods. More inclusive models such as cooperatives and joint venturesare regarded as options to reverse this situation, however to achieve an environmentof food security it is necessary to build a political framework.
