RESuMEN El escrito que a continuación se despliega, procura re-considerar los discursos que se han modulado en torno al bandidaje, desde el campo literario en Chile. Qué resulta ser un bandido para sus espectadores o, si existiría algún relato coincidente que se extendiese entre el bandido estatuido por la historiografía y el labrado por la literatura, son algunas de las preguntas a las que se aspira dar contestación. Se pretende así, observar las vinculaciones entre peón-gañán, roto chileno y bandido, indagando además en la ruptura simbólica y definitiva que trasunta la implicación en la práctica del bandidaje. Se considera la fatalidad como sustrato transversal en su ejercicio y se exponen las motivaciones que lo conminan a devenir salteador. Poesías populares, romances, cuecas, cuentos y novelas inscritas sobre un marco epocal extendido, son ABSTRACT The following article seeks to reconsider the discourses articulated around the " bandidaje " from the field of literature in Chile. Some of the questions explored are: How is a bandido perceived by an external observer? Or, Is there any coincidence between the bandido established by historiography and the one created by literary texts? In this sense, special attention is paid to the links between different figures, namely the peón-gañán, roto chileno and bandido, exploring also the symbolic rupture implied in the practice of bandidaje. Considering misfortune as a transversal background, this essay exposes the motives urging the bandido to become a bandit. People's poetry, romances, cuecas, tales and novels-laid out on an extended
