Criterios estilísticos y funcionalidad: a propósito del concepto de simetría compositiva

This work addresses, in relation with the concept of compositional symmetry, as a criterion for the evaluation of style, and from the point of view of Spanish, the problem of stylistic criteria versus the functional motivations underlying the choices made in the use of language. The objective is to show that to rigidly adopt stylistic standards like that of ideal symmetry is never convenient, since that means giving preponderance to the material over the functional, the latter being the true essence of language.
