Descripción

As a part of the commemorative celebration is important to think about the construction of visual identities in mexican art as a reflect of the nation's distinctive features, and as part of collective imaginery. The aim of this article is to overcome some common places about the painting of Rufino Tamayo. It establishes the relation between the richest of his ideas and different political and philosophical schools of thought. It presents Tamayo as a nationalist painter who's elaborated a particular construction of national identity, that reflects diversity. The principal interest of Tamayo was to fulfill an art with local characteristics but at the same time, very avant-garde. The research emphasizes the connections of his work with the pictorical indigenism and establishes a continuity -and not a rupture- with the postrevolutionary nationalism. His pictorical proposal is not only an aesthetic interpretation of the native art, but also a reflection of the mexican cultural identity.
