This work examines conceptions of first–year university students about strategies for physics problem solving. These ideas are considered as part of the students’ conceptions about learning domain. A sample of Engineering and Physics students was studied, using a specific metacognition scale. We conclude that there are “specific strategies” for the same type of problem –Research on laboratory. Different conceptions are activate related with studies orientation: conceptions of Engineering’s and Physics’ students’ about the suitability of some proposed strategies in order to right problem solve are detected.
