FEATURES OF COMPUTERS THAT MAKES THEM GAIN WIDE ACCEPTANCE
Speed-A computer is a very fast device. It can carry out instructions at a very high speed obediently, uncritically and without exhibiting any emotions.
Reliability. Computer provides very high speed accompanied by an equality high level for reliability. Thus computers never make mistakes of their own accord.
Does not suffer from the human traits of tiredness. Nor does it loose concentration even after working continuously for a long time.
The computers have a lot of storage devices which can store a tremendous amount of data. Data storage is essential function of the computer.

ORIGIN OF INTERNET
The Internet originated in the late 1960s when the United States Defense Department developed ARPA net (Advanced Research Projects Agency network), an experimental network of computers designed to withstand partial outages such as a bomb attack. The agency sought to create a web of computers that could continue to communicate with each other, even if some of the computers were disabled. In the mid-1980s, when desktop computer workstations became increasingly popular, organizations wanted to connect their local area networks (LANs) to ARPA net. If computers could link together and share resources, everyone would benefit.



BENEFITS OF INTERNET
Announcements-With the World Wide Web, you can distribute various announcements to millions of users in a timely manner.
Distribute Product Catalogs-The World Wide Web is a very effective medium for distributing product catalogs. In the old days, putting together a product catalog used to be very costly in terms of time and money needed to publish and distribute it.
Product Advertising-You can use the World Wide Web to advertise various products. Before purchasing a product, customers will be able to look up various product specification sheets and find out additional information.
Immediate Distribution of Information-When information is added to a Web site, it's immediately available for browsing by millions of Internet users. Hence making it an ideal medium for distributing information
Provides jobs to people who want to make money online like buy and sell services, blogs and web design.
Ability to link to people and places immediately
Motivation for students in sharing their work online with the world

NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF INTERNET
Copyright issues - it's easy to get caught, so teachers need to make sure their students follow the rules
Some social sites are not good for example pornography pictures which leads to immorality
Leads to internet addiction as people will be glued to the computer most of the time
Most data in the internet is in accurate because most of the time people post their opinions so you will take a lot of time finding the right answers
People will start getting lazy on reading books because thet assume that internet is the source for every answer

COMPUTER VIRUS
Computer viruses are small software programs that are designed to spread from one computer to another and to interfere with computer operation.

Characteristics of a computer attacked by viruses
The computer runs more slowly than normal
Computer stops responding or freezes often
Computer crashes and restarts every few minutes
Computer restarts on its own and then fails to run normally
Applications on the computer don't work correctly
Disks or disk drives are inaccessible
Ways of keeping our computers free from viruses
Use firewall which indeed which helps keep intruders from getting into the computer
Update your software-
