I will compare and contact Paradise Lost's Milton with Dryden's Mac
Fleckecnoe. Both Milton and Dryden use epic conventions to get their point
cross. I will use lines from both texts to back up my claims. In our note
called the muse of the dove the dove in represents the spirit of Holy
Spirit For example, "And chief thou O' Spirit, that dost prefer" (Milton
1832). We can see from the short quote that Milton calling the religious
muse for help in poem to guide him through the poem. For Dryden, He was
making fun of Thomas Shadwell's Muse. "Promise a play and dwindled to a
farce? When did his muse from Fletcher scenes purloin (Dryden 2116)? From
the two lines that can see that Dryden is making a farce of Thomas Shadwell
as a dramatist. Dryden basically says his stuff is a piece of shit. In
short, Milton and Dryden use them as polar opposition of each other.

Milton used use Iambic Pentameter in Lost Paradise to teach to individual
to learn about Christianity, however Dryden, Mac Flecknoe teach lesson
about Christianity. For Example from Milton "Of Man's first disobedience
tree, whose, mortal taste brought death into the world, and all woe (Milton
183). We can see that that Milton use stated that Man taste the forbidden
fruit and get punished for it; in which brings death the world and footnote
Milton spend the first twenty-six lines on the sins of man. He wants to
show the man use getting punished by God, In addition, Milton used the
first twenty-six lines of Paradise Lost to use show reader the fall of man
is the fall of goodness. And the rise of wickness. Dryden is comparing John
the Baptism tin the line "To the nation in thy greater" (Dryden 2112). In
short, Dryden compare religious figure with second rate poet of England.

In Paradise Lost and Mac Flecknoe language did play an important role. For
Milton's language was vagueness of words, so that the reader can look them
up to increase their word usage Like for example from "So Spake the son,
and into terror changed the count'nance too severe to be beheld and full of
wrath bent on his enemies" (Milton. 1945). We can see that Milton use no
cursed words in these lines to go his point cross to the reader. In
summary, Milton used words as a tool to help to reader understand his point
of view, however Dryden used a lot of cursed words to get his points of
view of cross to the reader for example, "Echoes from Pissing Alley Sh-----
call (Dryden .2113). We can see that Dryden cursed in his to get his point
cross. In short, Milton epic poem was more s than Dryden than mock epic.

For Milton and Dryden, Both want the reader to the look the person and the
meaning behind each footnotes of the both for each poem For example, (On
Footnote 5 on 1841), Plural forms, Masculine and feminine,
reprehensively, denoting aspects of the sun god Baal, and moon goddess
Astarte (called Astoreth in line 438, below ( Milton 1841). In the footnote
Milton uses the Milton pagan religion to describe that the male and female
relationship. We can see that Milton interconnected of male and female
through out the Paradise lost, In short, Milton saw the interplay of the
male and female of necessary to understand his poem. However, Dryden show
the his footnotes as a form of his satire against Thomas Shadwell, For
Example "In 31 B.C.E. "Octavian became the first Roman emperor of the
thirty-two. He assumed the title Augustus in 27 B.C.E. (2112ff). We can
see that Dryden used a footnote as a form of satire against Thomas
Shadwell. In short, Milton footnotes were taught his reader history and
other subjects, however, use them as a form of satire.

The idea of scope in the epic poem of Paradise Lost is great, vastness and
mock epic is short in nature and narrow. For example, "That whom they
hit, none, none on their feet might stand, Through standing else as
rocks, but down they fell By thousands ,Angel on Archangel rolled"…."They
worse abhorred. Satan beheld their plight," (Milton 1940). We can see
that Satan is called on the falling Angels to attack to An Archangel, we
can see that Satan can not beat a good angel. It takes thousands of
falling angels to fight one archangel. In short, Milton used one of the
major character expand scope of the Paradise Lost. In scope is the mock
epic is narrow in perspective to the epic poem. Mock epic is usually about
one thing or one topic. Through the mock poem, we see the two letters SH
with straight line means. In short, Milton want to the he was capability
of holding a vastness of epic poem. Dryden's poem was satire comments on
someone than vast piece of vast literature.

Milton used Deus Ex Machina in Paradise Lost. "And Chaos, ancestors of
Nature of Nature, hold Eternal anarchy, amidst the noise of endless wars,
and by confusion stand. For, Hot, Cold, Moist and Dry, four champions
fierce" (Milton 1865). We can see that Milton called in the weather in
Book 2 of Milton's Paradise Lost. This is one of many references to the
weather, God, Satan and weather. In Mac Flecknoe, we do not see the Deus
Ex Machina. One of the things that distinguish between epic poems from a
mock poem is the length of it in summary, it is central to epic poems like
Paradise Lost. Mock epic does have format to develop a Deux Ex Machina.

We see epic council many times through out Paradise lost. I'm using just
one of several examples from the text. "A solemn council forth to be held
At Pandemonium, the high capitol Of Satan and his peer: their summons
called From every band and squared regiment By place or choice, the
worthiest; they anon With hundreds with thousands trooping cane" (
Milton 1849). The following lines Milton used epic council to convince the
reader, that epic council was central to his epic poem like Deux Ex
Machina. We can see Milton speak about the Pandemonium was the capital
of the Hell when all of the devils meet for satanic council and the oppose
was heavenly council of God and his Archangels, angels. One example from
Mac Flecknoe, ""The treble squakes for, the basses roar: And Pissing
Alley Sh---call. And Sh-----call. …. (Milton 2113). The short lines of a
little long line expressed point of view. It talks about little fishes was
bits of shit. Dryden infers that Thomas Shadwell was a piece of English
shit in the literary tradition. In addition, epic council was limited in
scope all with mock epic and expanded within the epic poem. Epic council
was central to all of the epic poems in this class.

Both poems used epic roll call again. Milton used it greater than Dryden do
in his mock epic. " Idol of majesty divine, enclosed With flaming
Cherubim, gold shield Then light lighted from his gorgeous throne, for now
"Twist host and host but narrow space was left" ( 1930). We can see from
the lines that Milton is epic roll call to particular symbols relation to
religion characters from Paradise Lost. In Mac Flecknoe " Near these a
Nursery erects its head Where queens are formed and future heroes bred;
Where unfledged actors learn to laugh and cry, where infant punks their
tender voices try,
And little Maximins the gods defy. (Dryden 2113). In the following lines
Mac Flecknoe during training lines from the Mac Flecknoe. Dryden is mocking
talented as dramatics. The Nursery also setting for practing prostitutes.
In summary Dryden and Milton epic roll call to try their literary point
always.

In summary, Milton used more form of epic conventions to get his point
cross; however, Dryden used epic conventions as tool to apply to satire.
We compare Milton's Paradise Lost and Dryden's Mac Flecknoe from political
point of view. Milton could have Charles I as Satan wanted to get rid of
him. John Dryden was a support of Stuarts's throne. Thomas Shadwell
belong to the Whig Party. Dryden detests the Whigs. I believe that If
Shadwell support Stuart's throne, Dryden would not wrote Mac Flecknoe.
Both Milton and Dryden played an important role in the development of the
English Literary Canon.
