Descripción

This chapter is part of the first volume of the series Indigenous beyond Columbus, compiled and edited by Jorge Ulloa Hung and Roberto Valcárcel Rojas. It focuses on the analysis of some of the theoretical and methodological edges, which has been addressed by archeology and other social disciplines, the theme of heritage and indigenous presence in the Dominican Republic. The emphasis is on critical reflections of the management of that issue in different socio-historical situations and deconstruction of colonial perspective that assumes different ways to neutralize, manipulate, or deny the indigenous heritage according to various proposals of omission. Advocates a form of treatment of the subject that recognizes the link with the pre-Columbian millennia of existence and removes many of the traditional schemes to valuing the indigenous contribution to the construction of the present Dominican society.
