Descripción

The history of human colonization of the West Indies (Caribbean Islands) was reviewed using early Spanish chronicles and other criteria, going up to modern molecular techniques (e.g. DNA).We propose that multidisciplinary approaches are perhaps the best tools in the study of human migratory patterns, due to the fact that written material is very scarce, very speculative, and it only covers 500 years of habitation, while humans have been in these islands for the last 7,000 years, or more.  We propose the use of Darwinian Theory, population genetics, and population biology as theoretical background for the study of human occupation and the use of behavioral ecology of other social animals in order to infer, both inter and intra group behaviors.
