Summary

The synthesis and characterisation of the products obtained by reaction of 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehydeazine, H4DBA, and iridium nitrosyl or platinum, palladium and nickel phosphine complexes are reported. The relation between the complexes' stability and the electron withdrawing power of the ligands is considered. With nickel, for which only the parent mononuclear complexes, LzNi(catechol), were obtained, the influence of the neutral ligand L is discussed. Introduction

Metal catecholato species have received a great deal of attention as models in areas such as biological and clinical chemistry (1). It is well known that metal complexes containing 1,2-dihydroxybenzene moieties are involved in the activation of molecular oxygen
