Descripción

Bibliographic studies are a useful tool as they provide knowledge of the existing research, which helps guidefuture studies; they can be used to document patterns of published studies on biodiversity, which in diversecountries can provide valuable information to knowledge about global biodiversity.Oaxaca is the richest Mexican state in bird species. Despite the environmental, sociological and economicimportance they have, several authors indicate that further study is needed on them. However it is unclearwhat is known collectively as the information published so far is scattered. This paper presents the collection of 934 documents dealing with birds in Oaxaca, published in the period1829-2016 and which were obtained by searching in multiple databases and through the collaboration ofmany researchers. These documents are classified according to eleven thematic categories: “ecology”,“biogeography and distribution”, “locality”, “biology”, “conservation”, “management”, “reproduction”,“systematics and taxonomy”, “genetics”, “etnoornithology”, and “others”. The publications are also classifiedaccording to whether the study is conducted exclusively in Oaxaca or not. The bibliometric analysis showsthat there is an increase of studies per year. The least studied topics are “etnoornithology” and” locality”; themost studied, “biogeography and distribution” and “systematics and taxonomy”. The latter two issues are alsothe most linked in studies that include more than one subject category. Current research topics vary morethan those written previously. Only 30% of the published studies deal exclusively in the state. The mostcommon format for publishing are magazines, however, lots are not indexed. The remaining formats forpublications are gray literature, so definitely, many publications have little visibility. The paper concludes by proposing certain lines of research in the future. The database created can be accessed in the appendix and electronically via any spreadsheet software. This work was developed within the "Program of travel grants for cooperation development Thesis, (1-4months) during 2015" attached to the scholarship program of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).Moreover, it is a part of the project that is under the direction of José Cruz Bojorges Baños, BIRDS OFOAXACA: BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE CURRENT KNOWLEDGE, CUP 2IR1106, heldat the Universidad del Mar.
