Descripción

The object of the present study is to consider some Romanesque buildings, unknown or insufficiently known, which permit a new understanding of the material presence of the first Romanesque buildings in the kingdom of Castile-León. This study focuses on the western spaces in the Benedictine monastic churches of Sahagún, San Zoilo in Carrión, and San Isidoro de Dueñas. In many of these cases the absence of archeological evidence calls for a certain caution in the formulation and assessment of hypotheses. A discussion of the genesis, significance, and evolution of facade-structures during the high middle ages is followed by a thorough study of the above-mentioned remains.
