Descripción

From the instrumentation of monitoring wells near the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field with pressure transducers of continuous recording; the results of the application of autocorrelation and spectral analysis techniques of the water level variations in the G-1-17 borehole in the period April 27 to July 19, 2006 are reported. The implementation of these techniques aimed to identify the dominant components in the correlograms and frequency spectra obtained and that may be associated with natural and/or anthropogenic phenomena that influence on the study area. The results indicate that the water level variations are mainly caused by fluctuations in barometric pressure, surface temperature, seismic activity, and the effect of the earth tide, however, was not possible to quantify the direct contribution of each of these phenomena to variations in water level observed, therefore this paper presents a framework to pose models that can reproduce the recorded variations and achieve a characterization of the materials that form the shallow aquifer in the Mexicali Valley.
