This paper presents an improved hybrid TVPSOGSA approach to solve the environmental/economic dispatch problems. TVPSOGSA uses time varying social and cognitive coefficients to enhance the search ability. For experimental verification economic power dispatch problem with cubic cost function having 3, 26 generating unit and combined economic and emission dispatch problem having 3, 6 and 40 generating unit (with valve point effect) were considered here. The multi-objective problem has been converted into a single objective using the price penalty method and also fuzzy based decision scheme is utilized to take out best compromise solution. The success of proposed method is verified by comparing with other recently reported evolutionary algorithms. The computational results reveal that the improved hybrid TVPSOGSA has faster convergence and provides higher quality solutions and also its greater complex constraints handling potential of the multi objective problems in the power system.
