Many problems of easel paintings on canvas are caused by the structuralinstability of the holder. If its instability is consider as an inherent quality of the workthat is desirable to preserve, the difficulty of treatment is not in the technologicalproblems in themselves, but how to ensure the preservation of the painting withoutsubstantially changing the intrinsic authenticity lies in the existence of originalmaterials. In this work are collected different approaches on how to solve the equation.Then the specific problem of an oil painting on canvas is consider. It requiresintervention and has come down to us without lining and with its original stretcher.
