Toponimia ya arqueoloxía: dalgunos apuntes sobre\'l sou usu complementariu a partir d\'experiencias investigadoras na Asturias occidental

This article presents some general considerations concerning the use of placenames as a resource in archaeological studies. Its focus is on a number of perceived methodological shortcomings which are present in many place-name compilations. Some technological innovations are proposed as possible solutions. Several examples of place-names as useful tools in actual archaeological practice are provided; theseshow how far-fetched interpretations of toponymic sources can be avoided by understanding the kind of information researchers can expect to get from place-names.
