Representaciones del intelectual. El suplemento El Nuevo Tiempo Literario en Colombia y su relación con la cultura europea en la primera mitad del siglo XX

Este artículo se pregunta por las diversas imágenes que los integrantes del suplemento colombiano El Nuevo Tiempo Literario hicieron del “intelectual” durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. Se analizan estas representaciones valiéndose del estudio y la comparación de figuras emblemáticas europeas, y del análisis de sus ideas en momentos coyunturales como, por ejemplo, el caso Dreyfus y la Gran Guerra. Para concluir que la autorrepresentación que hicieron los colabores del  suplemento les permitió distinguir las diferenciasy similitudes entre escribir, pensar y “actuar”, es decir, entre ser un literato, un crítico de la literatura y un intelectual comprometido con la acción política.*This article explores the diverse images that the staff of the Colombian literary supplement El Nuevo Tiempo Literario presented of the stereotype of “intellectual” during the first half of the 20th century. It analyzes said representations through the study and comparison of emblematic European figures andthe analysis of their ideas in important historical moments such as the Dreyfus Case and the Great War, for example. The conclusion is that the self-representations of the supplement’s collaborators made it possible to distinguish the differences and similarities between writing, thinking, and “acting,” i.e., between being literati, literary critics, and intellectuals committed to political action.
