This paper intends to study the creature created by M. Yourcenar in “Memoirs of Hadrian”; the deep knowledge that the author had of the sources and literature leads to rule out a "re-reading" of the roman in strictly historical terms. Therefore, the information extracted from two literary sources (Historia Augusta and Cassius Dio) gives elements that help us to make an assessment of the character, of the inner world of the Hadrian created by M. Yourcenar
