Modificaciones en el entorno de la catedral de Murcia: la plaza Belluga y sus aledaños en el siglo XX

The setup of the Belluga Square and the surrounding spaces of Murcia Cathedral, have been determined by the prominence of the cathedral complex. Throughout the twentieth century, these areas have undergone transformations, sometimes left just in an intention, and because of the significance they have on the character and appearance of the city, they have caused a strong social protest and have been intensively discussed, as much as for the submitted proposals as for the procedures established for its implementation. However, once these proposals and final transformations were made, the premise that it was a performance in the environment of a cultural heritage asset was scarcely taken into account, which is understandable when talking about the works that were carried out in the mid-century, but not so in the last and final remodeling, whose complicated development makes clear how necessary it is to establish new criteria for such kind of interventions.
