La experiencia de ASO (Agrupacion Socialista Obrera - 1948-1953): Fracaso político e impulso a la renovación clasista de la izquierda uruguaya

The attempt of the Agrupación SocialistaObrera (ASO) to create a new working left partybecame a definitive political failure by theend of 1953. However, it’s noteworthy the importancethat some of its main members hadin the later creation of an alliance of severaluruguayan unions into a single union, as wellas the influence that its classist conceptionsabout the working unions had in the followingdecade. By using the source of the Clase Obrera(Working Class, ASO’s newspaper) along withother leftsist newspapers, memoires and secondarysources, this article reconstructs themain phases in ASO’s history, paying specialattention to certain conjunction points thatallow us to explain the limitation of such politicalproject.Key words: uruguayan lefttist groups, politicalparties, union movements, working press
