Although it is recognized that there is a social breakdown in real access to the contents of the knowledge society, educational structures fail to integrate the training necessary to familiarize users with the mechanisms required for adequate competency in the web. The present article advocates the use of electronic literature in learning environments as a culturally relevant matter on its own, but also as a classroom resource to introduce other content, particularly with reference to language and literature. This allows the learner to become familiar with reading (digital or otherwise), the use of hypermedia environments, and the various contexts of sociolinguist expression in the Internet.
