ESTUDIO SOBRE LOS CONOCIMIENTOS DE CONTAGIO DEL SIDA EN ESTUDIANTES DE MEDICINA.pdf

SUMMARYThe authors evaluated the knowledge held by second-year medical student with regard to the risks of infection with AIDS disease. A 32-item questionnaire was used to refer to possible risks of infection under various circumstances. The Student´s t Test was applied for statistical analysis. The authors highlight the following finding: 1) In 11 of the questions, the students are well-informed about the risk of HIV transmission;2) In 6 of the questions, the students have little knowledge about the risks of HIV infection; 3) in three ques­tions which refer to surgery, the sample group was quite confused in its evaluation of infection risk.Furthermore, it is disturbing to ascertain the insuffi­cient knowledge held by the students regarding the risk of infection as a result of blood transfusions in the current Spanish context and, even worse, is the situation with the general public with whom the students are compared.  The authors emphasize the need to improve the information and training given to students with regard to the risks of HIV transmission since some health-care professionals are reluctant to treat these patients.RESUMENLos autores estudian los conocimientos que los estudiantes de segundo curso de Medicina tienen sobre los riesgos de transmisión de la enfermedad SIDA. Se utili­za un cuestionario con 32 ítems que hace referencia a posibles riesgos de transmisión en circunstancias diversas. Se utiliza para el análisis estadístico la t de Student. Entre los resultados hay que destacar: 1. En 11 de las preguntas, los estudiantes están bien informados sobre los riesgos de contagio. 2. En seis de las preguntas  los estudiantes tienen pocos  conocimientos sobre los ries­gos de contagio del Sida. 3. En tres preguntas que hacen referencia a cirugía, la muestra se encuentra bastante confusa a la hora de valorar los riesgos de contagio.Por último, llama la atención la mala información que tienen los estudiantes acerca del riesgo de conta­giarse por esta enfermedad al recibir una transfusión de sangre en España, hoy, y como significativamente aún está peor informada la población general, que  se utiliza para comparar los resultados. Se enfatiza en la necesi­dad de mejorar la información y formación en los estu­diantes de Medicina sobre los riesgos de transmisión de esta enfermedad que tiene una especial importancia por el rechazo de algunos profesionales sanitarios a tratar a estos pacientes.
