Descripción

Archaeology has a fundamental role to play as a source of information on Roman agriculture in Catalonia. The paper gives a quick overview of the study of Roman agriculture archaeology in Catalonia that began the tradition of scientific studies at the end of the 19th century. The study of the territory, and later the landscape, correspond to the last quarter of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century. Roman agriculture developed to a very similar level to that achieved by traditional Mediterranean agriculture prior to the mid-20th century. From the second half of the 1st century BC Tarraconense wine played an important role in the market and in trade. The Roman agrarian development should be framed within the system of the Roman city. A bief review of the Republican periods up to the Late Roman period.
