Descripción

These two poems were composed for a triduum held in Triana in reparation to the Blessed Sacrament, which had been eaten by the horses of the Protestants during the brutal and sacrilegious devastation of the Flemish town of Tirlemont (Tienen) by the Franco-Dutch troops on the 9th and 10th of June, 1635.The poems have been preserved among other papers which have nothing to do with Caro in a volume also containing his letters, poems and other writings. The poems followed a letter to Ilefonso Navarro of Aragon and Beas, who had sent a paper prasing Saint Anne in 1657. Therefore, it seems very likely that Navarro had also written these poems in honor of Saint Anne. Moreover, the differences in the forms of some place names and in the application of various poetic rules between the poem Trianna and Rodrigo Caro’s poems show that he did not wrote it.
