Cross-border Territorial Cooperation represents a turning point in the ongoing efforts of jurists to attempt to adapt their toolbox to the new categories of transnational law.This article endeavors to analyze a specific dimension of the progressive transformation of the nation-state through the lenseof cross-border cooperation in the framework of European Union law.The paper is basically divided into two parts.The first aims to delineate the principal characteristics of transnational law polycentrism; the non-exclusive role of stateactors in the regulatory process and the development of legal standards; openness; the emergence of hybrid legal pheonemenathat do not belong—at least not exclusively—to the areas of hard law or soft law.The second part analyzes the discipline of cross-border cooperation, with a view towards singling out typical characteristicsof transnational law in this specific area. For this reason, one of the latest instruments established by European legislation,the European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC), which are, nonetheless, currently undergoing changes, is usedas a case study
